MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A fire that broke out in a packing company on East 5th street in Montgomery, near Ann Street and just south of I-85, is "under control" according to responders on the scene.
The Montgomery Fire Department says they got their first 9-1-1 call from Haynes Ambulance at 4:03am. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 4:07am.
The fire broke out at Piedmont National, a packing company that contained cardboard, plastic and other combustible material. The Piedmont National building was destroyed, but no nearby businesses appeared to suffer any damage.
Two 18-wheelers parked near the building were heavily damaged.
Two firefighters suffered "minor injuries" according to authorities. Those injuries were described as a "mashed foot" and a strained muscle. It took approximately 50 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
It took them 1 hour and 29 minutes to get it under control. Investigators continue to look for a cause to the blaze.
