MONTGOMERY COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - 41 years in the classroom. That's more than 4 decades. Maury Popwell started his teaching career in the late 60's and he's still going strong. "It keeps me young," Popwell said. "I feel like I still have something to give to them and I love what I do."
He's seen a lot of changes through the years. Popwell says the advances in technology are a great tool when they're used the right way. "To keep it fun you have to renew yourself. I have to come up with new ways, you can't do things the same way every time or the kids will see you're not into it."
He has the energy of a first year teacher and doesn't plan on going anywhere any time soon. "The day I wake up and don't enjoy it, I'm going home."
But for now his home is Hooper Academy in Montgomery County. Mr. Maury Popwell is this week's Class Act.
