AUM Men's Tennis has strong showing at Blue-Gray Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 2010 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Champion Auburn University at Montgomery men's tennis team had a strong showing this weekend in the Fall Blue Gray Invitational, which was hosted by the City of Montgomery at Lagoon Park.

During the two-day event, the Senators dropped only five singles matches in the tournament, four of which featured AUM teammates squaring off.

Sophomores Boris Obama and Loic Didavi each finished the weekend with a perfect 5-0 singles record, with Obama dominating the round-robin, flight one draw and Didavi breezing through flight two.

In flight three, sophomore Bruno Savi captured victories over a pair of teammates to earn the flight championship. Savi received a bye in the first round, won in straight sets in the quarterfinals against Shorter's Grayson Jones, and eliminated AUM's Joshua Reasons in the semifinals of bracket play.

Savi advanced to the finals to take on sophomore teammate Bence Toth, who battled into the championship match with straight-set victories over Huntingdon's Dylan Carr and Shorter's Thibault Langeard and Bastien Russo.

In the finals, Savi dropped the first set 6-3, but stormed back to take the second set, 6-0. In the deciding set, Savi outlasted Toth, 12-10, to earn the flight championship.

The Senators also found success in the doubles portion of the tournament, as Jouini and Toth were flight three champions following an 8-3 victory over Russo and Jones from Shorter. The duo also defeated the Huntingdon tandem of Adam Sexton and Tyler Creamer in the quarterfinals.

The team of Savi and Obama, as well as Didavi and sophomore Claudio Andrade also earned victories in doubles play.

The AUM tennis team will return to action at the ITA South Region Championships, hosted by Xavier University (La.) from Oct. 1-3.
