FAYETTEVILLE, AR – The No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide won its S.E.C. opener Saturday afternoon, in a hard-fought 24-20 victory over No. 10 Arkansas in Fayetteville. The Alabama improves to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in the conference while the Razorbacks fall to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in SEC play.
Junior running back Mark Ingram ran for 158 yards on 23 attempts and scored two touchdowns, including one to give Alabama a 24-20 lead with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Junior Julio Jones caught 5 passes for 55 yards and senior quarterback Greg McElroy completed 18-of-26 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown. Arkansas' Ryan Mallet led the Razorbacks with 359 yards through the air on 25-of-38 passing, becoming the first quarterback to throw for over 300 yards against Alabama since Utah's Brian Johnson in the 2009 All State Sugar Bowl. The Alabama defense intercepted Mallett three times on the day, including two by sophomore Robert Lester. Alabama returns to conference action next Saturday, hosting Florida at 7 p.m. CDT. The game will be televised by CBS.
