Man kills wife, shoots self in Conecuh County

A man strangled his wife with a cord then later took his own life by a self-inflicted gunshot wound last Sunday morning at about 9:30 according to Conecuh County Sheriff Edwin Booker.

Randy Everidge, 35, strangled his wife Whitney Everidge with a cord, then left their home in Evergreen and went to Paul, Ala., where he committed suicide. Whitney Everidge was taken off life support late Wednesday afternoon at University of South Alabama Hospital in Mobile.

The couple had two children, a 5-year-old son and a 19-month-old daughter who are now being cared for by Randy Everidge's brother. Randy had been using prescription drugs, Sheriff Booker said.
