Two children left behind after man kills wife, self

EVERGREEN, AL (WSFA) - A man strangled his wife with a cord then later took his own life by a self-inflicted gunshot Sunday. Conecuh County Sheriff Edwin Booker confirmed the deaths.

Randy Etheridge, 35, strangled his wife Whitney Etheridge with a cord, then left their home in Evergreen and went to Paul, Ala., where he committed suicide.

Whitney Everidge was taken off life support late Wednesday afternoon at University of South Alabama Hospital in Mobile.

The couple had two children, a 5-year-old son and a 19-month-old daughter who are now being cared for by Randy Etheridge's brother.

Randy had been using prescription drugs, Sheriff Booker said.
