MONTGOMERY, AL - Sheriffs from 46 of Alabama's 67 counties endorsed Ron Sparks for governor Wednesday.
"The majority of sheriffs in Alabama support Ron Sparks because we know he is a strong supporter of law enforcement and has worked with all of us during his time as Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. We know he has the leadership and vision to guide Alabama strongly through the next four years," said Sheriff Mike Blakely of Limestone County. "That is why we have come together to show our support for him."
Sparks said in a news release that the endorsement proved he is committed to working with everybody across the state to take Alabama forward.
"I am honored that these law enforcement leaders from every corner of the state have chosen to endorse me. It is great news that sheriffs from every corner of our state support me and my campaign for governor. They are leaders in their community and I have the highest respect for all of them. I am committed to working with them to help keep our communities and families safe. They know law enforcement is a top priority of mine, and their support will help take us to victory on Nov. 2."
Sparks faces Republican gubernatorial candidate Dr. Robert Bentley in the November election.
