Tallapoosa Co. church burns to the ground

TALLAPOOSA CO, AL (WSFA) - A Tallapoosa County church was destroyed in an overnight fire Wednesday.

Fire units responded to Pentecost Methodist Church on Church Hill Road around 12:30am. The church is located off Highway 49 between Reeltown and Dadeville.

One firefighter who lives less than a mile from the church went directly to the scene and reported that the structure was already on the ground.

The building, built in the 1940s, is a total loss. Investigators believe faulty wiring caused the blaze. No foul play is suspected at this time, but the state fire marshal's office is investigating.

Members of Pentecost Methodist have faced challenges with the building before having restored and added onto the house of worship after a tornado damaged it in the 1980s.
