The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced its Players of the Week for games of September 23-24-25.
C. J. Duncan from Saint James School is the Private School Player of the Week and Malcolm Cyrus from Autaugaville High School is the Public School Player of the Week.
Both players will be honored at the Club's next meeting on October 5. Dr. Gaylon McCollough will be the speaker. Dr. McCollough played on Alabama's 1964 National Championship team and has authored a book on Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.
C. J. Duncan, a sophomore quarterback, had 274 yards passing with 3 touchdowns in Saint James' 42-12 win over Montgomery Academy. Duncan also rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown. Duncan's 437 all-purpose yards rank as the ninth best in the history of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Saint James, coached by Karl Smeltzer, is 1-4 on the season and hosts Headland for homecoming on Friday night.
Malcolm Cyrus, a senior running back, returned two punts for touchdowns in Autaugaville's 34-14 win over Catholic. Cyrus also rushed for 86 yards on 6 carries and had a 51 yard touchdown reception. Cyrus finished with 231 all-purpose yards. Autaugaville, coached by Antonio Richards, is 4-1 on the season and hosts Pickens County on Friday night.
The Montgomery Quarterback Club meets at the Montgomery Country Club. The social hour begins at 5:30 followed by dinner at 6:30 and the program at 7:00. Guests pay $30 at the door.
