COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Fans are getting ready for what's being called the granddaddy of all football rivalries. The Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic. Columbus police began planning earlier this week to ensure the safety of everyone attending this weekend's event at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium.

"We will have a contingent of approximately forty officers from various departments here in the city of Columbus to assist us in that regard," said Major Julius Graham with the Columbus Police Department.

Security setup and traffic control preparations have been taking place all day. It's an effort to make sure that everyone has a safe weekend.Even though this is the 75th year for the game, for vendors like Diana Walker it's her first year out of the stall. Walker says good weather, good attitudes, make the perfect ingredients for a good game day.

"I'm just expecting the hot sunny day like today everybody just out here enjoying themselves and just have a good time," Diana Walker said.

It's a time that Tuskeegee alumni association President Carolyn Erkins says is a milestone for both schools to celebrate. "A healthy safe environment people fellow shipping and getting along great," Erkins said.

Not only will police ensure the safety of those attending tomorrow's game, they also have tips for those of you who will not. "For those who are should happen to pass through the area we suggest that they take an alternate route because we do expect heavy traffic," Graham said.

For Diana Walker it's all about being safe and honoring the history and spirit of the game. "Seventy-five years is history of just coming together having a classic rival game versus rival game football is what we are in to and we love it," Walker said.
