Lady Tigers golf move to 7th at Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 12 Auburn carded an even-par 288 Saturday in the second round of the Tar Heel Invitational, moving up four spots to a tie for seventh place. The Tigers have a tournament-total 5-over-par 581 heading into the final round.

Hosted by North Carolina, the Tar Heel Invitational is a 54-hole tournament being played at the par-72, 6,285-yard Finley Golf Course. The three-day tournament features six teams ranked in the GolfWorld top-10 and 13 ranked in the top-25.

"We had a good day today, but we let our guard down a little after about 12 holes – we had a really good round going then," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "But, we had some good things come out today. Patricia Sanz had a solid day and Carlie made some strides after a roller-coaster round."

Auburn played under par for a good part of the day, holding steady at 3-under-par after 12 holes.The Tigers dropped some late bogeys, but were able to hold on at even-par to finish the round.

Two Tigers carded individual sub-par rounds to lead the team up the standings. Junior Patricia Sanz led the team with a 2-under 70, moving up more than 30 places to finish in a tie for 36th with a 2-over 146. Senior Cydney Clanton finished the day with her second 1-under 71 and heads into the final round in a tie for 14th with a 2-under 142.

In between the pair is junior Haley Wilson with a 1-over-par 145. She carded a second-round 73 to move into a tie for 31st.

Carlie Yadloczky and Marta Sanz rounded out the Auburn lineup, finished the day tied for 57th and tied for 66th, respectively. Yadloczky stood at 5-over-par at one point, but shot 3-under over her final 11 holes to improve to a 2-over 74 on the round. She finished the day with a 5-over-par 149.

Marta Sanz followed up her first-round 75 with a 4-over 76 in the second round. She heads into the final round with a 7-over 151.

In the team race, Alabama leads with a 25-under-par 551, followed by Duke at 10-under 566 and LSU at 6-under 570. Host North Carolina finished the day in fourth with a 578 (+2) while Virginia and Wake Forest round out the top five with 3-over 579s.

Individually, Alabama holds the top two spots with Brooke Pancake in first at 10-under 134 and Camilla Lennarth in second with an 8-under 136. Virginia's Brittany Altomare is in third with a 7-under 137, followed by Duke's Laetitia Beck in fourth with a 6-under 138. Louisville's Sara-Maude Juneau, Alabama's Jennifer Kirby, LSU's Megan McChrystal and North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell are tied for fifth with 5-under 139s.

Action at the Tar Heel Invitational will continue at 8:15 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Auburn will start on Nos. 6-9, playing alongside Michigan State and Georgia. Live stats for the final round will be available at
