Bama coaches name their players of the week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A total of six Crimson Tide players were named players of the week by the Alabama coaching staff following Saturday's loss at South Carolina. Wide receiver Julio Jones was the lone player named on offense and defensive linemen Josh Chapman and Marcell Dareus were recognized on the other side of the ball. Safety Wes Neighbors, kicker Cade Foster and tailback Trent Richardson represented the special teams.

Jones finished the South Carolina game with eight catches for 118 yards with one touchdown. He now has two 100-yard receiving games this season and five in his career. Alabama's leading receiver, Jones is third in the SEC in receiving yards per game (73.3) and receptions per game (5.3).

Dareus, who earned honorable mention SEC Player of the Week, was second on the defense with eight total tackles (six solo) with four tackles for loss and one sack. He leads the Crimson Tide with six tackles for loss on the season. Chapman was credited with five stops (three solo) along with one TFL and a pass break-up. Alabama leads the SEC and ranks fifth nationally in scoring defense (13.3 ppg) and has not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 40 straight games (leads nation).

Richardson, who has been recognized by the coaches all six weeks, totaled 177 all-purpose yards on Saturday. He returned six kickoffs for 142 yards with a long of 31 and added 35 rushing and receiving yards. Neighbors contributed in several areas of Alabama's special teams and had a tackle inside the 20 on kickoff coverage. Foster, who also had a tackle on a kickoff, had two of his five kickoffs go into the endzone for touchbacks.
