Court says 'no' to relocation of Lockhart trial

AUBURN, AL - The Alabama Supreme Court has denied a motion to move the capital murder trial for Courtney L. Lockhart in the slaying of Auburn University student Lauren Burk out of Lee County.

The justices filed an order Thursday, denying a defense motion to move the trial.

The 25-year-old Lockhart, of Smiths Station, faces trial for capital murder during a kidnapping, capital murder during an attempted rape and capital murder during a robbery for the death of Burk, of Marietta, Ga., on March 4, 2008.

Defense lawyers say extensive media attention over the slaying of the Auburn freshman has tainted the jury pool, denying their client a fair trial in Lee County.
