Tide preps to host Rebels

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team went to practice for the first time since its first loss in over a year Tuesday with a two-hour session in full pads.

Head coach Nick Saban gave his players an extra day off from physical contact Monday to help his players recuperate coming off a stretch of playing top 20 teams in three consecutive weeks. The Tide are preparing for its seventh straight game and do not receive a bye week until after next Saturday's matchup with Tennessee.

"It was good to get back out and hit someone," sophomore linebacker Nico Johnson said. "We made some mistakes last Saturday, but it was good to release some of the stress and get back to the basics and correct everything."

The Crimson Tide defense will need to prepare to keep the Mississippi offensive attack at bay. The Rebels offense, led by former Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, leads the Southeastern Conference in scoring offense, averaging 37.2 points per game.

"They have a lot of weapons," Johnson said of the Mississippi offense. "They have more weapons than anyone else in the SEC and we're going to have to go out and be fundamentally sound. Every defender will have to be responsible and do their job."

Alabama will hold two more practices on Wednesday and Thursday before Friday's walk-through. The Crimson Tide will play its 90th Homecoming game this Saturday when they take on Mississippi at 8:10 p.m., on ESPN2.
