ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF)- A woman is stabbed more than a dozen times while witnessing to her attacker.
Her accused attacker had a court appearance Friday.
43-year-old Daniel Mark Gilbreath waived his right to a preliminary hearing and his attempted murder charge will now be heard by a grand jury.
For Julia Gunter, a lot of her outside wounds have healed, but emotionally she's still feeling a lot of pain. "Everyday I thank god for letting me stay," said she said.
Gunter believes it was her faith in God that saved her life August 21 when, she says, her neighbor Daniel Mark Gilbreath came into her home.
"He said, 'I've came here to kill you' and that's just what he said. 'I came to kill you'," said Gunter.
Julia says he started stabbing her. "Got me 13 times in one shoulder around my shoulder. Once in the arm," she said.
The wound to her lung caused the most bleeding and she then let her faith begin talking for her as she spoke to Gilbreath.
"'Sweetheart I love you'...and he was still stabbing. I kept saying and 'God loves you'. I said, 'You're a good person, you don't want to kill me and take me away from my grandbabies," Gunter said.
Julia says that's when the stabbing stopped.
Her wounds are healing but insides are not. "But this inner peace. He took it away from me, and no matter where I am or how many locks are on the door, I'll never have that back. Never," said Gunter.
Julia says she went through a phase after the attack where hate entered her heart. She says she's gotten over that and plans to let the justice system punish her attacker.
