MONTGOMERY-The Montgomery Quarterback Club announced its Players of the Week for games of October 14-15-16. Matt Hamner from Maplesville High School is the Public School Player of the Week and Danny Madison from Alabama Christian Academy is the Private School Player of the Week. Both players will be honored at the Club's October 26 meeting. Coach Reggie Barlow from Alabama State University, Coach Mike Turk from Huntingdon College, and Coach Gregg Baker from Faulkner University will be the featured speakers at the meeting.
Matt Hamner, a senior quarterback, was 11 of 12 passing for 313 yards in Maplesville's 54-19 win over Autaugaville. Hamner passed for five touchdowns and rushed for another touchdown.
Maplesville, coached by Brent Hubbert, is 8-0 on the season and ranked #2 in Class A. Maplesville hosts Sunshine on Friday.
Danny Madison, a junior wide receiver/running back/defensive back, rushed for 79 yards including a 60 yard touchdown run in Alabama Christian's 42-20 win over Bullock County. Madison was 2 for 2 passing and had 7 receptions for 87 yards and returned a kickoff 45 yards. On defense, Madison made 5 tackles and had 2 pass deflections.
Alabama Christian, coached by Kenny Simpson, is 2-6 on the season and hosts Hillcrest – Evergreen on Friday.
The Montgomery Quarterback Club has three meetings remaining after the October 26 meeting. On November 2, Georgia State head coach and former University of Alabama head coach Bill Curry will be the featured speaker. On November 9, former University of Tennessee head coach Johnny Majors will be the featured speaker. The Club will hold its annual awards banquet on February 8. Auburn University football chaplain, Rev. Chette Williams, will be the featured speaker.
The Montgomery Quarterback Club meets at the Montgomery Country Club. The social hour begins at 5:30 with dinner at 6:30 and the program at 7:00. Guests are welcome at Club meetings but must make an advance reservation. Reservations may be made by sending an email to the Club at email@example.com or calling Perry Hooper, Jr. at 409-3119. Guests pay $30 at the door.
