AUTAUGA/CHILTON CO. LINE (WSFA) - The Alabama Department of Transportation has reopened all but one lane of Interstate 65 near the Autauga/Chilton Co. line as firefighters worked to put out the flames of a large grass fire. Heavy smoke is also wafting across the interstate.

One northbound lane remains closed, however.

Alabama State Trooper spokesman Sergeant Steve Jarrett says Troopers were notified of the fire around mile marker 196 around 1:45pm. Apparently, a truck pulling a trailer was dragging along the roadway and sparks ignited the blaze.

The fire spread into the woodline causing a threat to structures, Jarrett said adding that Co. Rd 20 at I-65 is completely blocked.

Three fire departments and the Alabama Forestry Department are on the scene. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

WSFA 12 News has a crew on the scene at this time. We'll have the latest information in each of our newscasts.
