Troy Homecoming set for November 13

TROY, Ala. – Troy University will welcome back alumni and friends on Nov. 13 as the University celebrates Homecoming under the theme of "Celebrating the Trojan Nation."

"Homecoming continues to be bigger and better each year," said Faith Ward, alumni affairs director. "There are more reunions for alumni groups and we continue to add activities that we feel will be of interest to alumni and friends of the University. This year's theme, ‘Celebrating the Trojan Nation,' is particularly relevant because of the University's global emphasis. We hope all alumni and friends will join us as we celebrate what it means to be a part of the Trojan nation."

Homecoming activities will get under way on Nov. 12 with a TROY Alumni Jazz Concert from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Trojan Center Theatre. The concert will benefit the Troy University Wesley Foundation.

A Homecoming pep rally will follow on Bibb Graves Quad beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Two alumni reunions are also scheduled for Nov. 12. The World War II-era alumni reunion is set for 5 p.m. in the Stadium Club at Veterans Memorial Stadium. A reunion for Vietnam War-era alumni will begin at 6 p.m. in the lobby of Hawkins Hall.

Activities will continue on Saturday, Nov. 13, including the annual Homecoming Day Parade in downtown Troy beginning at 10 a.m. The parade is hosted by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

"The homecoming parade gives us the opportunity to recognize Troy University and the important role it plays in our community," said Leigh Anne Windham, Chamber president. "We invite all businesses, industries and organizations to be a part of this annual community event."

Deadline for parade entries is Oct. 29. For additional information, contact the Chamber at 334-566-2294.

Festivities will continue on campus with various alumni groups kicking off tailgating and reunion activities at 11 a.m. The Homecoming Court will be introduced during pre-game activities beginning at 2 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Stadium. Kickoff for the game against Sun Belt Conference-opponent Florida International is set for 2:30 p.m.

Halftime activities will include the crowning of the Homecoming queen, recognition of the 2010 Alumni of the Year honorees, a performance by the Sound of the South marching band and appearances by the alumni band and alumni cheerleaders.

On Sunday, Nov. 14, the Troy University Concert Chorale will present its fall concert, "Masters in Miniature" at 3 p.m. at Bush Memorial Baptist Church. The free concert will be followed by a reception honoring Phil Wilson, an alumnus of the University's John M. Long School of Music who was recently named "Alabama Teacher of the Year."

In addition, student organizations and University offices will take part in a variety of decoration and Homecoming-themed contests throughout the week leading up to the weekend festivities.

For additional information on Homecoming activities, contact the Alumni Affairs Office at 334-670-3318.
