SELMA, AL (WSFA) - Two Selma City Schools employees were taken to a hospital Monday afternoon after several shots were fired into a window at Payne Elementary School.

No one was struck by the bullets, but one teacher hit her head while dropping to the floor. Another teacher, who is pregnant, went to the hospital as a precaution for her unborn child.

The teachers were sitting in a faculty meeting around 3:35pm when the stray bullets broke the window pane. All school children had already been dismissed from campus and were not hurt.

Selma Police investigators say the unknown suspects, juveniles, were shooting at unknown individuals who were running down the street. Investigators say the school was not the target of the shootings.

Superintendent Dr. Donald G. Jefferson said the school will open Tuesday with security on site and counselors will be on hand to speak with the faculty and students as needed.

Parents are also encouraged to speak with counselors upon request.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Selma Police Department at 334-874-2125.
