MONTEVALLO, Ala. (AP) - The University of Montevallo has placed its campus police chief on paid leave following her arrest on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence.
A university spokeswoman says Shelley Tyree will be off duty for an undetermined amount of time.
The Shelby County jail log shows Tyree was booked into the jail on Tuesday and released on Wednesday.
Officials haven't revealed details of her arrest, but university spokesman Cynthia Shackelford said Thursday the charges aren't related to Tyree's job, and nothing happened on the campus of the small, state-run liberal arts school.
Tyree has been police chief at Montevallo since December 2008. She's worked for the department for a decade.
Tyree did not immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.
