MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer team secured the No. 3 seed in the West Division for the upcoming Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, with a 2-1 victory over cross-town rival Faulkner on Saturday.
With the win, the Lady Senators improved to 11-6 on the season and 3-2 in league matches. The Lady Eagles fell to 13-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.
"This was a really intense game and both teams competed well," head coach Jamey Newsome said. "Our team never let their intensity drop and that was nice to see."
AUM earned goals from senior Amber Elam and sophomore Helga Franklinsdottir in the victory, while fellow sophomore Alexandra Tomasdottir added an assist.
In goal, senior Daisy Burnfield tallied five saves to earn the victory.
The Lady Senators will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6, when they travel to Rome, Ga., to take on Shorter in the opening round of the SSAC Tournament. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
