Fans react to Cam Newton story

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Ever since the Cameron Newton story broke, fans have been abuzz about the implications. Even though Auburn is not implicated in the story, it could become a distraction for the team that's in the running for an SEC and possibly a national championship.

This is Homecoming Weekend in Auburn, and there are a lot of fans and alumni already in town for this weekend's game and other festivities. Cam Newton has electrified the Auburn community, a key factor in the team resurgence. So fans are hoping for the best in the case.

"They're definitely going to support him no matter what I mean, I mean nothing's come out yet," said Alex Bayer, an Auburn fan.

"I just think it's going to blow over," said Kyle Gibson, an Auburn fan. "When you're the highest ranked team in the country, you're going to get people talking about you. So I don't think it's that big of a deal."

"The game will be good and I think we just have to focus on the season," said Katie Bennett, an Auburn fan. "They say he's still eligible to play, nothing's been proved, so we just have to look forward to the next couple of games."

So fans are reserving judgment on the situation, and hoping it doesn't hurt the team.
