BATON ROUGE, LA - The No. 5 Alabama football team lost for only the second time in its past 23 games, dropping a 24-21 decision on the road to No. 12 LSU on Saturday at Tiger Stadium.
Crimson Tide senior quarterback Greg McElroy finished the game 21-of-34 for 223 yards and two touchdowns while junior Mark Ingram ran the ball 21 times for 97 yards and a touchdown. Junior wide receiver Julio Jones also hauled in 10 catches for 89 yards.
LSU scored on its first three possessions of the fourth quarter to seize a 24-14 lead before a 9-yard McElroy to Jones touchdown cut it to 24-21 at the 3:23 mark of the fourth quarter.
The Crimson Tide had allowed only 10 points in the fourth quarter all season before allowing 14 versus the Tigers.
The Tide returns home for the first time in a month next Saturday against Mississippi State.
