MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - State Representative Alvin Holmes (D) has decided he won't be watching the 2010 Iron Bowl on the people's dime, so he's giving his tickets away.
Holmes sent a letter Tuesday to Dr. Robert Witt, President of the University of Alabama stating his reasons for giving the two tickets away.
Holmes said that he'd decided to give the two tickets and a parking pass to, "two members of the military who were wounded in the Iraq or Afghanistan wars."
The controversial 62 percent pay raised legislators gave themselves on the first day of the 2007 legislative session played into Holmes' decision "and the fact that leaders of both parties in both houses of the Legislature have indicated that ethics reform is to be a priority..."
The 2010 Iron Bowl, the annual meeting between the Auburn Tigers and Crimson Tide, will be played November 26 at Bryant-Denny Stadium on UA's campus.
It was not immediately known if any other legislators had decided to give away their tickets, which are a perk given to them yearly.
Price ranges for an Iron Bowl ticket on websites like StubHub range from $200 to $1900.
