Obama sees progress in US relations with Muslims

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (AP) - President Barack Obama is using his visit to Indonesia to deliver a progress report on how the United States is doing at repairing frayed relations with Muslims around the world.

In a speech he's giving at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, the president says that while much has been done since his June 2009 speech in Cairo, more work is needed to reduce tensions.

The president stresses that the U.S. is not at war against Islam, but rather against violent extremists who have no claim on any religion.

And he says that innocent people in America, Indonesia and around the world have been targeted by extremists and must work together to defeat them.

Obama praised Indonesia for its own efforts to root out terrorists.
