Trial for accused Auburn student killer continues today

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - The second week of a trial is beginning for a man accused of kidnapping and killing an Auburn University freshman from Georgia.

The prosecution will resume presenting witnesses Monday in Opelika for the trial of 26-year-old Courtney Lockhart. He's on trial on capital murder charges for the shooting death of 18-year-old Lauren Burk of Marietta, Ga.. She was abducted from campus, robbed, forced to disrobe and then shot in the back left shoulder in 2008. An emergency room physician testified in the first week of the trial that she bled to death.

Lockhart has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
