ATLANTA, AL (WSFA) - Cam Newton's attorney spoke publicly for the first time Thursday to an Atlanta, Georgia television station. WSB-TV 2 approached attorney George Lawson as he exited his automobile. Lawson did not shy away from the camera.
Lawson, who represents the Newton family, "particularly Cam Newton" said his clients did not ask for or receive any money.
Lawson said his clients have cooperated with the NCAA investigation and have been truthful.
As for an FBI investigation, Lawson was definitive that he had no knowledge of an investigation.
As for reports that Cam Newton cheated academically while enrolled at the University of Florida, Lawson said he was aware of UF's address and "at some point in time they will hear from me." The release of private student information is a federal violation of FERPA laws.
