MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - "When I first moved into the neighborhood, everything was kinda on the rough side," says Arthur Williams.

Williams has lived near Ross Street for 8 years now.  He remembers when violence plagued the community.

"Every other night you might hear gun shots and stuff," he adds.

But lately, "things started getting better ya know."

Residents on Ross Street say the area is typically pretty quiet, and news of the shooting came as a shock.

"I just couldn't believe it," adds Williams.

"We just didn't have the kind of action we had yesterday," says Sam Scott.

Montgomery Police say someone shot 18-year old David Hall in the head on Ross Street around 2:30 Friday afternoon.

Hall later died at Jackson Hospital.

Police believe Hall and the shooter knew each other and were involved in an ongoing argument.

"He's a friend of my what I would call my godson. They're very close," says Scott.

Scott knows Hall through other friends. He says Hall always seemed reserved.

"He didn't bother anybody. Every time I see him he was just sitting there being quiet."

While Scott's never experienced a shooting on his street, He never wants to again.

"I'm hoping it was a one time occurrence."

Police are still trying to determine a motive for the crime.  This is Montgomery's 23rd murder in 2010.
