Red Level man killed, driver charged in crash

RED LEVEL, AL - A single-vehicle crash in Covington County claimed the life of a Red Level man and landed an Andalusia man in jail.

Richard Lee Perry, 49, of Red Level, was a passenger in a 1995 Ford F150 driven by Carl Edward Miller II, 39, of Andalusia when it crashed.

Initial investigation indicates that Miller was traveling over the posted speed limit on Morgan Road when he lost control, struck a ditch and overturned. Perry and Miller, who were both unrestrained, were ejected from the vehicle.

Perry was pronounced dead at the scene by the Covington County Coroner. Miller was uninjured in the crash. He was arrested at the scene and transported to the Covington County jail where he was charged with manslaughter.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the 2:45 p.m. crash that occurred five miles north of Red Level. State Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
