S. Carolina's QB sports sling as SEC champ game nears

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia is walking around with his left arm in a sling, although coach Steve Spurrier says he should be fine for the Southeastern Conference championship game on Saturday.

Spurrier says Garcia hurt his left shoulder in the 29-7 victory over Clemson last week. The Gamecocks trainers and medical staff thought it best to protect the shoulder with the sling and brace. Spurrier says Garcia didn't practice Monday and likely won't throw on Tuesday either.

Spurrier expected Garcia to throw the football on Wednesday in preparation for Saturday's matchup at the Georgia Dome with No. 2 Auburn.

Garcia has thrown for 2,646 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. He's 14th nationally in pass efficiency rating.
