New signs being added to downtown Montgomery

Montgomery, AL (WSFA) - You may have noticed some new signs popping up in downtown Montgomery.

It's part of the city's plan to make it easier for visitors to find historic and entertainment attractions.

For Elicia McClure and her granddaughter Logan, it's already been helpful.

"I grew up here and lived here until I was 10, but nothing looks the same as it did back then.  It's all new and fresh," McCLure said.

She brought her granddaughter here to experience the history of the city.

"I just knew there was a lot to do and a lot to see, and I wanted her to have the chance to see it," she added.  "And we wouldn't have found the trolley without those signs."

So far, crews have put up around 15 of the signs, and when it's all said and done, there will be 52.

Dawn Hathcock, with the city of Montgomery, said, "This is going to be a great tool for us to help visitors to understand what all there is to see and do in Montgomery."

The signs are the next phase in the city's new branding campaign, and the "Capital of Dreams" logo is at the top of each one.

City leaders hope it not only makes finding these downtown landmarks easier, but entices visitors to make one more stop and stay a little longer.

The news signs will only be placed in downtown. City leaders plan to have them all installed by the end of the year.
