MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- Hundreds of people in the River Region will have a Merry Christmas thanks to the people who donated at 12's Day of Giving.

The event, organized by Dixie Electric, WSFA 12 News and Cumulus Radio benefits the Montgomery Area Food Bank, Christmas Clearinghouse, and Toys For Tots.

Totals for the day-long event have been finalized.

Shoppers offered $31,000 in cash and checks to the cause which will help the Christmas Clearinghouse.

The Montgomery Area Food Bank benefited from the drive in a big way. They took in 16,435 pounds of food!

And there will be a lot of presents under the trees this year thanks to everyone's donations.

There were 5,586 toys of every imaginable design placed into the donation bins.

The drive, even in a tight economy, broke the records set in 2009. Last year, 12's Day of Giving took in $30,691, more than 7,995 pounds of food and over 4,000 toys.

From all of us here at WSFA 12 News, thank you to all our partners and everyone who gave to make this such a successful year!
