MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
A little before two o' clock Wednesday afternoon the jet carrying the body of 34-year old Marine Staff Sgt. Stacy Green landed at the Alex City Airport.
Not a word was said as fellow Marines gently and respectfully carried Green's casket to a waiting hearse.
Aretha Ford didn't know Green. Still, she felt the overpowering need to be among the quiet crowd of supporters.
"We have people fighting and dying for this country and everyone should be here," said Ford.
Just about everyone was it seemed.
On the way to Radney Funeral Home, hundreds turned out to show their support, support for a seasoned Marine killed in combat in Afghanistan. It's still not clear what the circumstances were.
Much like Ford Gloria Wilson also didn't know Mr. Green but knew his uncle.
"I just can't imagine what that family is going through. My heart breaks for them," Wilson said.
Staff Sgt. Stacy Green spent 10 years in the Marine Corps.
