New developments in school lawsuit

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Hoyt Painter, lll, is the voice of the Marbury Bulldogs and President of the Marbury Touchdown Club. Painter says he's never known coach Kyle Glover to lie, a man of his word.

"He always does what's best for the kids," said Painter.

It is Glover who is suing the Autauga County School Board and some of its former members. The 20-page lawsuit consists of allegations ranging from slander and defamation, conspiracy to theft by deception.

"What this case is about is a man regaining his good name and reputation. That's been slandered," said Glover's attorney Dan Taliaferro.

Slandered according to the lawsuit when Glover blew the whistle on what he says was an obvious wrong.

In essence Glover alleges the school board knowingly allowed student-athletes who were zoned for the Marbury High School district to enroll and play for Prattville High School, a football powerhouse. In fact, Glover claims the board kept a secret computer file containing the names of the students who were improperly attending Prattville High School.

Consequently, the lawsuit claims the board fired Kyle Glover from his position as head football coach for Marbury but remains a teacher in the school district.

"He was the one trying to stop it. He exposed the truth," said Taliaferro.

Autauga County School superintendent Greg Faulkner fired back with a response.

'Kyle Glover has made several detrimental allegations against this board and this district.. not only in his complaint but in the media. However, as difficult it is to show restraint in the face of such an attack we will not comment on pending litigation or try cases in the media. My only comment will be I believe the district will be cleared of any wrongdoing at the conclusion of this matter.'

Back to Hoyt Painter, he continues to be the voice of support for Kyle Glover.

"He's fighting and we need more people like that," said Painter.

WSFA 12 News was unable to reach some of the former school board members but we did talk with Dorothy Waller by phone.

Waller's response? 'I have nothing to say.'

The Autauga County School district has 30 days to respond to Glover's allegations.

Taliaferro says they seeking compensatory and punitive damages of an unspecified amount.
