State Trooper Association Supports Governor's Tax Package

The Alabama State Troopers Association has endorsed Governor Riley's one point two billion dollar tax and accountability package.

The troopers say the money is needed to hire additional troopers to patrol Alabama highways. The troopers were joined at a new conference Thursday by Attorney General Bill Pryor and Public Safety Director Mike Coppage. Riley says the tax package is the only way to be sure there will be enough money to fill the needs of the state's public safety agencies. Coppage says there are currently only 319 troopers on Alabama roads. He says that is about half of the 600 needed to properly patrol the state.

Pryor says he is supporting the tax and accountability package because it will provide critically needed funds for public safety and criminal justice agencies. Alabama residents go to the polls on September nine to decide on the tax and accountability package.
