MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - College bowl fever rises this weekend.  Alabama will likely duplicate what Troy did earlier this bowl season.  Auburn is also favored to win the final and biggest bowl game January 10.  A bowl sweep would be impressive and fitting for our football frenzied state.

An Auburn win would give our state back to back national champions in college football to go along with back to back Heisman winners, an unprecedented feat for any state.

A Tigers win also means even more prestige for the Southeastern Conference, a conference that has won 6 Bowl Champion Series titles in the 11 years of the BCS, more than all other conferences COMBINED.  The SEC has also won more BCS bowl games the past 11 years than every other conference.

The Sun Belt Conference that Troy has dominated for the past five years is statistically the weakest of the 11 BCS conferences.

Troy would likely be better served by moving to Conference USA.  Aligning with UAB, Memphis, Southern Miss, Tulane, UCF, Marshall, East Carolina and others would seem to be a better fit for Troy.

Conference realignment is the rage now in collegiate athletics.  Nebraska is moving from the Big 12 to the Big Ten.  Texas Christian University, undefeated in the regular season for the second straight year and the nation's third ranked team this year, is moving from the Mountain West conference to the Big East conference.

The Troy program is poised for greater growth and being aligned with a stronger conference will accelerate that growth and maybe even get it closer to non-conference games with Auburn and Alabama!
