MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - So many people showed up to pay their final respect to a former Montgomery School Board member that it was standing room only inside the church.
The funeral for Tommy Miller, who died on Christmas Day after suffering a stroke, was held Thursday at Saint John's AME Church in Montgomery.
Miller served on the MPS Board where he represented District 6 for six years from 2000 to 2006.
"I remember Tommie as being a drum major for education, certainly for the children and the people of Montgomery," said Robert Porterfield, the current Dist. 6 representative. "He continued to work diligently until he passed. He was one that was really concerned about the movement of Montgomery and the education of the children."
Miller had a long career in public service. He held the position of Montgomery County's tax appraiser for 30 years before retiring for health reason in 2008.
