South Alabama family caught in BCS ticket shortage

ANDALUSIA, AL (WSFA) - One South Alabama family has been caught up in the demand for tickets for the BCS National Championship Game.  They learned Wednesday that the tickets they thought they purchased for the game are unavailable, and the company they bought the tickets from is going out of business.

Jonathan Rasberry played baseball at Auburn and now coaches at Andalusia High School.  He bought tickets to the big game even before the Tigers played South Carolina in the SEC Championship game.

"Come to find out this week, just five days before the game to get an email, sorry to inform you that we won't be able to fulfill your purchase," Rasberry said.  "And when you find this out it's kind of a gut-wrenching thing, you don't expect something like to this to happen; especially when you've been reassured through phone calls and emails that everything's guaranteed."

Rasberry says it's even more disappointing for the family because his younger brother is also heading to Glendale.  He has been wheelchair-bound since a car accident in December 2009.

"That's what we gave him for Christmas, me and my wife, because he knew we would be out there, so being excited about that and all of sudden, short of tickets, it's kind of disappointing," Rasberry said

In a letter issued to customers, Events Worldwide faulted various suppliers for not getting tickets to them as the main reason they're not able to provide tickets to their customers.   They also included a letter from their attorney saying the company had ceased operations.  The company has promised customers a full refund.

"Yeah, we're getting out money refunded, but we've also got our hotel reservations, and plane tickets, we had plans for this and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity," Rasberry said.

Jonathan Rasberry says he and his wife still plan to head to Glendale this weekend, to support his brother, and hopefully find a ticket.
