Boeing 747 lands in Montgomery, carrying AU Tigers home

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The BCS National Champions are home. The Auburn Tigers landed at Montgomery Regional Airport at 5:35pm Tuesday. The Auburn University Marching Band plane landed a short time earlier at 5:00pm.

One player who wasn't on the plane: Cam Newton. Newton traveled to California to tape a segment with Jay Leno for NBC's "Tonight Show". You can watch that at 10:35pm right after WSFA 12 News at 10:00.

Fans were welcomed to come to the airport, but aren't allowed inside the terminal. The team will go directly from the plane to waiting buses on the tarmac. Officials say it will take nearly an hour to load all the players and their equipment.

Fans along the fence at Highway 80 can cheer on the 2010 BCS National Champions. Many are holding signs cheering on their team.

The buses will travel to Auburn where another welcoming will take place. WSFA 12 News has a crew in Auburn and will have coverage of that event also.

The team's plan was originally to travel to Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport, but made the decision to fly into Montgomery because of the winter storm the past two days.
