MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - An Alabama State Trooper was involved in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 3pm at the intersection of Rifle Range Road and Redland Road in Elmore County. Authorities say an initial investigation and a witness indicate that a 2002 Toyota 4Runner was stopped at a stop sign on Rifle Range Road and was preparing to turn left onto Redland Road.
The Toyota pulled into the intersection and collided with a fully marked state trooper patrol car as it passed through the intersection while traveling north on Redland Road.
The driver of the Toyota, Khambenh Chanthavong, 53, of Wetumpka was transported to Baptist Medical Center East for evaluation. The trooper was evaluated at the scene. Both vehicles suffered major damage and were towed from the scene.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
