MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The city of Montgomery is about to spend a lot of green to bring a black and white checkered ball to town: $11.4 million in green to be exact.

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange signed a multi-million dollar contract Thursday to build 10 lighted fields and two stadium fields in an effort to enter the world of competitive soccer.

The City of Montgomery will partner with the YMCA to build a new complex at the existing Emory Folmar Soccer Fields.

The Director of the Montgomery Sports Commission plans to host regional and national competitive soccer events at the complex by Fall 2012.

Montgomery will build and maintain the new complex on property near Auburn Montgomery's campus, though the YMCA will remain the owners of the land.
