McMillan to be sworn in as Commissioner of Agriculture & Industries

MONTGOMERY - Agriculture & Industries Commissioner-elect John McMillan will be sworn in at Alabama's Inauguration Day ceremony on Monday, January 17, 2011. Before taking his oath of office, McMillan will drive a tractor in the inaugural parade accompanied by 100 Future Farmers of America (FFA) from throughout Alabama. It is one of several events in McMillan's schedule of inauguration day events released today.

"To be a part of a great team of leaders including our constitutional officers and legislative leaders is both an honor and challenge," McMillan said. "We have much work ahead of us in these times of limited resources and economic distress that affect so many Alabama families."

McMillan's wife, Kathryn, will join him for all inaugural activities. His oath party will include his son William McMillan of Montgomery, his son Murphy McMillan of Birmingham, who will administer the oath of office, his daughter-in-law Beth and his two grandchildren children El and John.

7:30 a.m. Prayer Breakfast, First Baptist Church, Montgomery

9:15 a.m. McMillan will arrive at parade starting point

9:45 a.m. Inaugural Parade begins. McMillan will drive tractor in Inaugural Parade

12 Noon Oath of office for Constitutional Officers

3-5 p.m. Agriculture & Industries Commissioner's Reception, Alabama Cattleman's Association Building, 201 South Bainbridge St.***

7-10 p.m. Inaugural Ball, Renaissance Hotel, Montgomery
