Idol contestant shows off 'glass hawk' hair, dance moves

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The 10th season of American Idol kicked-off with a bang Wednesday night, but the world hasn't seen anything yet.

Montgomery, Alabama resident Alvin "Digidoo" Butler was among the thousands of contestants who recently tried out for the show at a Nashville, Tenn. audition. There, he said he wowed the judges with his 'glass hawk' hair style.

Shimmering pieces of multi-colored glass and jewels adorn Butler's head. There are several photographs incorporate into the mix as well. The 23-year-old said his hair takes about three hours to prepare.

The AI contestant wasn't nervous performing in front of judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson. "When you have a fan base, when you're used to performing it just comes natural," he said. "It's good to just be yourself and just do what you love to do."

Butler said Randy was excited as soon as he stepped onto the floor. The judge wanted to check out the performer's unique hair, asking him to turn around.

"Digidoo", as Butler calls himself, chose to sing a gospel song a capella called "Let me touch you," by Kirk Franklin. The judges' final decision was a no, saying Butler's performance sounded too "churchy".

Though Butler didn't get a golden ticket to California, he believes his future is looking bright. He already has a California-based manager who is shopping the singer/dancer around to venues.
