Double murder jars Waugh community

MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) - The quiet community of Waugh was jarred by detectives and crime scene tape on Monday.

The victims, two men in their 60s, last seen Sunday evening, were found dead in their home.

"They were friends of mine, I never thought anything like this would happen.  They were very nice guys," said a friend of the victims, who doesn't want to be named and says he's lived in their neighborhood for six years.

He describes the victims as courteous, peaceful neighbors who didn't bother anyone.  He says that makes their murders even more difficult to understand.

"I don't know why someone would do this. They were good friends."

He says he knew there was trouble when one of the victim's sisters arrived Monday morning to take one of the men to dialysis, but found the door locked.  Later she discovered the bodies inside.

Montgomery County Sheriff D.T. Marshall says there is one way into the neighborhood, and one way out.  Marshall believes someone in the small community heard or saw something that could help advance the case.
