There's some troubling news from Baptist Health. After August 28th, the hospital will no longer be offering the outpatient blood transfusion service. This is where chemotherapy patients and sickle cell patients go when they need blood.
The program was not breaking event, in fact, it was costing the hospital too much money. The reimbursements for the services were not adequate, so after August 28th, patients will have to find another place for transfusions. Many sickle cell patients will now end up going to Birmingham or Mobile.
