Houston Co. EMA gets grant for new equipment

MONTGOMERY, AL - Alabama Homeland Security Director Spencer Collier Wednesday announced funding for Houston County Emergency Management Agency for purchase of satellite equipment hardware.

The satellite equipment hardware is a critical piece of the communication hardware aboard Region Two's Regional Incident Support Unit, which is used to transmit voice, data, and imagery back to the Emergency Operation Centers and first responders during times of crisis. The hardware cost $15,500 and was paid for through a U.S. Homeland Security federal grant.

"First responders are the most essential part of recovery in any disaster, so making sure that they have what they need in the field will help save lives," said Governor Bentley. "I thank Director Collier and his department for using their grant dollars for the protection and safety of our citizens."
