West Virginia Governor Tours Alabama's Virtual Library

West Virginia Governor Bob Wise was in Montgomery Wednesday to see elementary students demonstrate the Alabama Virtual Library.

Wise is chairman of the Southern Governors Association, and he plans to feature Alabama's Virtual Library at the association's meeting next month. He says Alabama is at the forefront of giving its citizens on-line access to thousands of magazines, databases, and other research material ... and it's a model he'd like to copy in West Virginia. Wise visited Alabama one day after announcing he would not seek re-election next year. Governor Riley joined the West Virginia governor today at Montgomery's Forest Avenue Magnet School.

Riley says that if his tax plan passes September ninth, he intends for Alabama to be a national leader in even more education programs. Alabama's virtual library has a two-point-seven million dollar budget and it will be used for an estimated six million searches this year.
