Residents rally against proposed dump site

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Residents opposed to a landfill proposed for Conecuh County are taking their arguments to local leaders.

June Serravezza of Citizens for a Clean SW Alabama told WKRG-TV that her group will attend a meeting of the county commissioners on Monday to make known its opposition to a 5,000-acre landfill that could be built along Highway 41.

Opponents have argued the landfill would devastate communities near it.

A spokesman for Conecuh Woods LLC said the landfill will attract jobs and industry to the rural county.
