Four Alabama divers score on day three of SEC championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Alabama closed out the diving portion of the Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, being held in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the University of Florida campus this week, on Sunday with four top-16 finishes.

Senior Adam Booher and sophomore Pete Hillyer finished ninth and 13th respectively off the platform while freshman Paige McCleary and senior Olivia Covey took 14th and 16th in the women's platform competition.

"Our divers got us off to a solid start," UA head coach Eric McIlquham said. "Now it's up to the swimmers to move us forward once they hit the water on Wednesday. Paige in particular did a great job at her first SECs, scoring in all three events, including making the big final in the spring board events."

McCleary scored 208.75 points over five dives off the platform to take 14th. Earlier in the weekend she took sixth off the 3-meter board and eighth off the 1-meter. The Lake Worth, Fla., native, was the top freshman finisher off both the 1 and 3-meter boards.

Covey scored 202.40 points to take 16th off the platform. She also scored off the 3-meter board on Friday, taking 15th place. Freshman Callan Buck was 21st off the platform after scoring off the 1-meter board  Saturday, finishing 15th.

Booher scored 285.10 points off the platform, finishing just one spot out of his third championship final of the meet. The Washington Grove, Md., was fourth off both the 1 and 3-meter boards over the meet's first two days. Hillyer scored 285.10 points to take 13th off the platform.

The Crimson Tide men are currently in fifth place with 43 points after day three, just six points out of third. Auburn leads the team race with 135 points. On the women's side, Alabama is in eighth place with 31.5 points, just seven points out of fifth. Auburn leads the championships with 96 points.
