Montgomery County school leaders requesting more money

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -With the prospect of facing millions of dollars in budget cuts, Montgomery County superintendent Barbara Thompson is asking for money from the county and the city.

Specifically, $400,000 from the county and $700,000 from the city of Montgomery.

The reason? To help make the payments for the $15 million borrowed and set aside for a new high school in east Montgomery.

Both governments have indicated they plan to help.

Thompson is suggesting the county and city make the payments for 3 years and the school board will start picking up the tab beginning the 4th year.

The first payment of $1.1 million is due in December of this year.
